So, whadya know. A (gay) guy is introduced in a prime-time television series (“Bones” in this instance) and is immediately cast as an evil, homicidal villian. As the show progresses, we’ll see how this plays out… but in the meantime.. I am reminded of the 1995 film “The Celluloid Closet” narrated by Lily Tomlin. This version of the homosexual is a recurrent theme in Hollywood and has been for decades.
Dracula’s Daughter (1935); Rebecca (1940); The Maltese Falcon (1941); Rope (1948); Caged (1950); Young Man With a Horn (1950); Rebel Without a Cause (1955); Midnight Express (1978); and don’t think it’s just something just from decades ago… Teen Wolf (1985); Fried Green Tomatoes (1991); Philadelphia (1993); The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999);
They did clear the ex-boyfriend (technically) but “the angry ex-boyfriend might still have killed the victim” is the next sentence after that revelation is presented to the audience.
The gay jokes continue… “gay dentist who plays football (significant glances exchanged)”
the unbelief that an entire football league can be comprised of homosexuals…
you know… many shows use “gay” as a joke. It’s a punchline for mainstream america. Even the people I go to school with use it like that. I wonder what would happen if, the next time they used sexuality as a joke, I unveiled my disturbingly argumentative self and verbally ripped their thoracic cavities open in front of everyone within 50 feet….
I’ll have to try that.

being a Christian in today’s world in America is not much different. So many movies/tv shows portray us as the bigot etc..
one day things will improve? I can hope.
Meanwhile most people don’t think and do not really want to confront. A simple Hey, I’m xxx and I don’t appreciate that may be enough to really set them back. And get them to think first the next time.
